School of Community and Health Sciences
City University London

City University London’s School of Community and Health Sciences is dedicated to the education and development of health and community-based professionals in London, the UK and worldwide.

Our undergraduate courses provide students with an academic qualification and professional recognition, opening up excellent career prospects within the NHS and beyond.

Our success and that of our students is demonstrated by a graduate employment record that is one of the best in the country. Students benefit from academic and theoretical knowledge, combined with practical skills gained from placement experiences at some of London and the South East’s leading healthcare providers.

Our location in the centre of London gives our students the opportunity to be part of a diverse and exciting community in which their work and their personal lives can thrive. And it allows both the School and our students to draw on the rich resources – intellectual, professional and cultural – that London has to offer.

Our aim is to educate top quality healthcare professionals who make a real difference to other peoples’ lives, as well as their own.

Many return to City to continue their studies, and either specialise in their chosen discipline, or diversify into management. More come back and participate in our high quality research activity where we make a direct impact on healthcare today, as well as in the future.

We teach, practice and research in a fascinating range of health-related disciplines. Find full information here

Facilities and Partnerships

The School provides excellent academic tuition from leading practitioners, many active in their field. We combine this with a variety of challenging placements in one of the most culturally diverse areas of London, through our excellent links with the NHS and private organisations. The level and variety of practical experiences has a huge impact on preparing our students for highly rewarding careers.

In School students benefit from superb in-house clinical skills facilities, all of which prepare students for real clinical environments. These include:

Saad Centre for Clinical Skills (Radiography)
Compass Centre (Speech and Language Therapy)
Fight for Sight Clinic (Optometry)

The School has excellent links with the health services in London, and with all of the associated professional bodies.

Accommodation

Whichever degree a student takes, we believe that the quality of their living environment is equally important. Student living should be stress free, leaving space for study and recreation.

The University is committed to providing the best atmosphere for its students, both academically and socially, without the worry of household bills and maintenance costs.

We also maintain an interactive web-based facility for privately rented accommodation in London in association with Studentpad.co.uk. In addition, the Student Centre has specialist staff that can advise on accommodation matters and provide information to students which will enable them to find suitable housing whilst they are studying at City.

Research

The School has some world renowned professors who combine teaching with leading-edge research. We pride ourselves on undertaking high quality research that is meaningful and applied, impacting current and future healthcare practice.

The School celebrated an outstanding performance in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).
