In 1977, St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies, was founded as the first private medical school in the Caribbean. After 33 years, St. George’s University has produced over 8,000 medical graduates who have practised in over 45 countries around the world.
School of Medicine
St. George’s University School of Medicine programme offers an array of options for entrance into medical studies. The School of Medicine includes a four- to seven-year programme leading to the Doctor of Medicine degree. Students are placed into the first, second, or third year of the premedical programme according to their academic background. Students who successfully complete the premedical programme are then promoted into the first year of the four-year Doctor of Medicine degree programme.
The first two years of medical studies at St. George’s University include Basic Sciences where students explore the traditional basic science disciplines. Students will then select one of nearly 60 affiliated hospitals and clinical centers throughout the United Kingdom and the United States to complete their medical programme with two years of clinical studies.
The School of Medicine also offers a variety of single and dual degree programs, including the dual degree Doctor of Medicine/Master of Business Administration in Multi-Sector Health Management and a number of dual degrees in research, public health, and allied health sciences.
True Blue – Grenada Campus Life
Overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the True Blue Campus houses nearly 1,600 St. George’s University students. This $250+ million state-of-the-art academic community has recently seen the construction of more than 50 new buildings, including a library, anatomy labs, dormitories, lecture halls, and a research institute.
The small, welcoming island of Grenada is also home to recreational activities including scuba diving, sailing, cricket, and hiking.
SGU – Student Support
St. George’s University has the largest and most committed student support services department of any school in the region, with more staff devoted to student support services than other regional schools have faculty.
The Office of Career Guidance and Student Development supports medical students in the steps to obtain postgraduate residencies. The Office advises students on USMLE preparation, and counsels students in specialty and residency selection, interview skills, CV preparation, and the residency application process in the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as for non-US programs.
