If you are looking for a challenging curriculum and a dynamic environment to absorb, test and master the skills to succeed as a podiatric physician, the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine is an ideal choice. The learning environment is conducive to student success. Students applying to OCPM must have a minimum of 90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours of accredited college course work.
International students must present undergraduate course work equivalent to requirements for admission. They provide evidence that they have command of written and spoken English through the TOEFL. Also required are reported scores (prior to enrollment and within three years of matriculation) from either the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) or the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).
A doctor of podiatric medicine (D.P.M.) diagnoses and treats disorders, diseases and injuries of the foot and ankle by medical and surgical means. The foot may be the first area of the body to show signs of a serious health problem such as diabetes, heart disease or arthritis.
The Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine is devoted to a single purpose; providing the best medical education possible towards becoming a podiatric physician. The college is accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CME) of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).
The staff in Student Affairs and Admission takes great pride in assisting those students researching a career in podiatric medicine and are available to answer your questions.
OCPM’s curriculum is comprised of the basic and clinical sciences. Course work in basic sciences include anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, histology and physiology. The basic sciences make up the first two years of study, giving students a competent understanding of the entire human body and its many functions.
OCPM students begin their clinical work upon completion of their first fall and spring semester. The second year prepares students for clinical rotations, while continuing their studies in basic sciences. In their third year, students spend much of their time in clinical rotations. Externships and clerkships make up the majority of a student’s fourth year.
Residency programs in podiatric medicine are the next step upon completion of the college program. Residencies range in length from two to four years and focus on surgical, orthopedic, primary care or general podiatric medicine.
OCPM takes pride in 100% residency placement for the past 16 years, while providing the most accurate information in the residency search process.
OCPM’s learning environment is conducive to student success. All class lectures are digitally recorded and are available for student review through the college intranet.
Student support services are available in academic and personal counseling and in extracurricular activities. The Library and Computer Learning Center are excellent resources for learning and study throughout a student’s career at OCPM. The library contains over 14,000 volumes of text and over 225 medical and podiatric journals. Medical data not available in the library can be accessed through the college’s interlibrary loan service.
The Computer Learning Center offers an enhanced learning environment where all software and equipment is kept current and wireless internet access is available 7 days a week. Peripherals include color printers, scanners and media readers to accommodate multiple media types.
